The Front Brake Light is a forward-facing warning light that affixes to the front windshield of a motor vehicle and connects to the vehicle braking system. The light is a visual indicator alerting oncoming vehicles that the subject vehicle is braking.

 

The Front Brake Light offers many safety advantages.

 

Left-hand turn/oncoming traffic

Imagine that you are sitting at an intersection, gauging on-coming traffic while preparing to execute a left-hand turn. Your Front Brake Light alerts oncoming traffic as they approach and proceed through the intersection that your foot is on your brake and you're not accelerating.

 

Pedestrians

Imagine that you are approaching an intersection and there are pedestrians in the crosswalk. Your Front Brake Light alerts the pedestrians that your foot is on your brakes and that you are decelerating.

 

Rear-end/emergency stopping

Imagine that you are in a braking situation (including emergency braking) where it would be helpful to alert the person in front of you when they look in their rear-view mirror that you have applied the brakes.  This is also helpful to you to see that the vehicle behind you is applying its brakes in the same situation.

 

The Front Brake Light is legal in the United States. The U.S. Department of Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration lighting standard already permits the installation and use of Front Brake Lights in motor vehicles.
